I’m sitting here on a beautiful Sunday afternoon writing this, because I realized today that “sometimes change is truly necessary…”
When things get too comfortable and too predictable, it’s time to make some changes. The design studio got a great new makeover. New paint, area rug and artwork (on its way from one of our fabulous suppliers!!). Once we have everything put-together we’ll post pictures. This makeover is a way to not only refresh the space, but to renew my mindset as well. I’ve been a bit “stagnant” lately –
Fall is a great time to change things up!
Just like the design studio, maybe you have a room in your home that could use a little change. It doesn’t have to be dramatic; it can be simply changing out throw pillows and accessories. Going for a bigger change – maybe you’ve had that sofa and chair for decades, now is the perfect time to donate it or consign it and make a little cash from it. Paint is another “easy” way to update a space. Have you had the same color scheme for years? Maybe it’s time to test drive a new color –
Sherwin Williams (fantastic supplier/partner) has several new colors for the 2019 fall season. Some of our favorites are in their Wanderer and Aficionado collections – rich, warm tones to make any home feel welcoming heading into the fall season.
I’ve never been a huge “blue” fan – but I have to say Distance has turned my head! I chose a lighter version of it for the studio this time and updated the niche with a Santorini blue cabinet that has a white marble top. It’s stunning and it makes me feel great!
Color really does set the tone for your overall space. When you’re selecting a new color, consider the items you’re going to keep in the space, then narrow down the palette to ensure cohesion. If you know you are keeping your burnt orange area rug, use it as an accent color and go up from there. The rule of thumb is 3 – when selecting your color scheme be sure to pick a primary, secondary and tertiary color to round out the look. If you’re more into monotone, do this with shade and tone instead of “different color,” it will make the room look “more pulled together.”
Making change… well, easy
Pick one thing and focus on it at a time. Don’t overcomplicate change –
Make the space pop with color
Want to try something new (like I did with Blue??)? Start small, maybe chose a few accents or accessories to “test drive” your new color choice. This will give you time to reflect and determine whether it’s a “keeper!”
Opt for cozy accessories
Every room in your home should reflect you and your family. Want to welcome guests this season? Pick up a cool basket and put throw blankets in it – when your guests come to visit, everyone can grab one and enjoy the outdoors while being warm and cozy!
